Our Year 4 Class

Welcome to our Year 4 class page!

Welcome to our Year 4 class page! During Year 4, children will experience a variety of engaging lessons and activities which aim to build on the children’s knowledge and assist them in reaching their full potential. In our core subjects, the children will continue to build on previously taught skills alongside learning new skills and how to apply them in order to become fantastic readers, writers and mathematicians! Through our subject-led approach, we will be starting the year off by learning about the Romans during our first 2 history units of Roman Invasion and Roman Britain. We will then move onto other exciting elements of history and geography including Amazon: River and Rainforests, Maya Civilisations and The USA.

Reading book days and expectations:

In Year 4, children are expected to have their reading books and reading record in school every day so that they are always ready for any opportunities for an adult to read with them. In Year 4, all children will have 2 reading books:

· A stage book based on their most recent Oxford Reading Tree assessment

· A reading for pleasure book taken from the classroom’s reading corner or school library (it is the children’s responsibility to sign out the book of their choice using the record sheet in the classroom and sign it back in again when they return it)

P.E Days:

· Wednesday afternoon

· Thursday morning (swimming)

Please ensure that PE kits are brought into school at the start of each half term and taken home at the end of half term to be washed. Earrings are not allowed for any PE sessions, so please ensure that your child either comes to school without them in on their PE day or is able to remove the earrings themselves.

Homework:

In Year 4, children will be assigned their homework on a Friday and are expected to complete it by the following Friday. In Year 4, everyone’s weekly homework will consist of:

1. Their current 99 club test to retry – ensuring that they follow the 5-minute time limit

2. Regular times table practice on TTRS

3. Spelling homework set on Spelling Shed

4. Regular reading at home – please ensure that this is recorded in your child’s reading diary. Remember – 3 times a week for 15 minutes will earn your child a raffle ticket for the termly book raffle!

Additionally, at the beginning of every half term, the children will also be set a creative project linked to their current history or geography focus to work on at home throughout

the half term and bring into school to showcase on the last week of the half term. Information regarding this will be sent out at the beginning of each term.

I hope you have found this page useful! If you have any questions then please come and ask!
